π± Installation & Setup
Installing the App
Download Hebrew Time from the Google Play Store and install it on your Android device (requires
Android 7.0 or higher).
Adding the Widget
- Long-press on your home screen
- Select "Widgets" from the menu
- Find "Hebrew Time" in the widget list
- Drag it to your desired location on the home screen
- The widget will automatically start displaying the current time and Hebrew date
Granting Permissions
For accurate zemanim calculation, the app needs location permission:
- Go to Settings tab in the app
- Tap "Enable Location" if not already granted
- Choose "While using the app" or "Always" for best experience
β° Using the Zemanim Tab
The Zemanim tab displays all halachic times for the current day based on your location:
- Alot Hashachar - Dawn (72 minutes before sunrise)
- Misheyakir - Earliest time for tallit and tefillin
- Sunrise (Netz) - Precise sunrise time
- Shema (MGA/GRA) - Latest time for Shema according to different opinions
- Tefillah (MGA/GRA) - Latest time for morning prayer
- Chatzot - Midday (solar noon)
- Mincha Gedolah/Ketanah - Earliest times for afternoon prayer
- Plag Hamincha - 1.25 hours before sunset
- Sunset (Shkiah) - Precise sunset time
- Tzet Hakochavim - Nightfall (when stars appear)
- Candle Lighting - 18 minutes before sunset (on Fridays/holidays)
- Havdalah - 42 minutes after sunset (on Saturday nights/after holidays)
All times automatically update based on your GPS location and the current date.

Using the Calendar Tab
Viewing the Hebrew Calendar
The Calendar tab shows a full Hebrew calendar view with:
- Hebrew dates displayed alongside civil dates
- Jewish holidays highlighted in color
- Current day marked with a circle
- Shabbat days (Saturdays) specially marked
Viewing Date Details
Tap any date to see detailed information in a bottom sheet:
- Full Hebrew date (day, month, year)
- Parashat Hashavua (weekly Torah portion) for Shabbat
- Holiday names and information
- All zemanim for that specific date
- Candle lighting time (if applicable)
- Havdalah time (if applicable)
Navigating the Calendar
- Swipe left/right to change months
- Tap the month/year header to jump to today
- Calendar automatically adjusts for Israel vs Diaspora holiday observance

Location Settings
- Auto-detect Location: Uses GPS to automatically determine your location
- Manual GPS Entry: Enter custom latitude and longitude coordinates
- City Selection: Choose from 38 predefined cities worldwide
- Israel/Diaspora Toggle: Manually override auto-detection (affects holiday
duration and parasha schedule)
Display Settings
- Latin Month Names: Show months in English instead of Hebrew transliteration
- Arabic Numerals: Display day numbers using Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3...)
instead of Hebrew numerals (ΧΧ³, ΧΧ³, ΧΧ³...)
- Theme: Automatically follows system dark/light mode
Notification Settings
- Enable/disable Shabbat notifications
- Enable/disable holiday notifications
- Notifications sent 24 hours and 30 minutes before candle lighting

- Open the app and go to the "Skins" tab
- Browse through the available skins with live preview
- Tap on any skin to apply it immediately
- The widget on your home screen updates instantly

β Troubleshooting
Widget Not Updating
- Check if battery optimization is disabled for Hebrew Time in system settings
- Ensure location permission is granted
- Remove and re-add the widget to your home screen
Incorrect Zemanim
- Verify your location is correct in Settings tab
- Check if Israel/Diaspora setting matches your actual location
- Ensure device time and timezone are correct
Missing Holidays or Wrong Parasha
- Check Israel/Diaspora setting (holidays and parasha schedule differ)
- Verify the Hebrew year in the calendar is correct
Battery Concerns
Hebrew Time is optimized for battery efficiency:
- Updates only when screen is on
- Uses AlarmManager for scheduled updates when screen is off
- GPS is used only when you open the app, not continuously
- Minimal background processing
